Chapter 8

MIA'S POV: "Alright? And what if I don’t want the mates? How do I reject them?" I asked Mom, watching her face intensely. Her eyes widened at my inquiry. "Mia, you cannot reject your mate. It’s against the pack’s law to do that. A mate is a gift from the Moon Goddess, creating a special bond for us to love and trust each other. If you reject your mate, you risk losing your wolf, and finding another mate isn’t easy. So, I won’t advise you to do that. Even if your mate is crippled, deaf, or mute, or even someone you hate the most, you have to accept the bond. The bond exists for a reason, unless you don’t want it, but it’s not easy to move on after rejection. You’ll be in constant pain, and it might take years to heal. Take me and Alpha David, for example. Though Alpha David lost his mate, your father only left me. It’s not like your dad rejected me, but whenever he cheats on me, I feel the pain, and he surely feels mine from last night and before, since he stubbornly refused to accept my rejection." "What? You feel pain whenever Dad cheats in London?" I asked Mom, my eyes widening in shock. "Yeah. I feel pain in my heart, and he surely feels it too. Since the bond is still there, but I cannot continue to wait for him," she said, her voice filled with sadness. "It’s fine, Mom, but what if Dad shows up before the wedding? Will you still reject Dad or call off the wedding?" I asked her, watching her face curiously. "No. I won’t call off the wedding. Your father will still leave me and return to London. It’s a fact. He won’t return, and I cannot compromise for him again. Did you call your father and tell him? I didn’t inform him about the wedding. I believe he’ll receive the news after the wedding or on the wedding day," Mom said, and I sighed. "I didn’t call Dad. My wolf asked me to tell Dad, but I refused," I said, looking at my mother's face guiltily, and her eyes widened in surprise as she smiled. "Mia, why would your wolf advise you to tell your dad about my wedding? Was it to sabotage it? I thought you were in support of my wedding with Alpha David Oscar?" Mom asked me sadly, and I nodded. "Yes, Mom. I am in support; my wolf is only concerned about Dad and not keeping him in the dark, but I thought about it. Since Dad doesn’t want to come home, then I cannot deny you being happy," I said, my voice filled with sincerity. There was no way I was going to tell my mother it was because of the Triple L. It’s better Mom doesn’t know what will happen to me if, possibly, the triplets are going to be my mates. "I love you, Mom, and I want you to be happy," I said, crossing the line between us and hugging my mother warmly. Her sweet lavender scent filled my nostrils and soothed my raging heart. "It's alright, Mia. I love you the most. Don't worry. Hurry and dress up; let me go and prepare our breakfast," Mom said before she exited my closet. I exhaled, putting on the dazzling yellow dress after slipping on my bra and underwear. Then, I left the closet and went to my room. I went to pick up my phone, and I saw a message from Vivian. "Are you coming?" Vivian texted me. "Yes, by noon," I replied to her message, and she agreed, "Alright. I’ll be expecting you." I put my phone down on the drawer and rushed out of my room to have breakfast with my mother so she didn’t think I was sad or avoiding her. As I got to the kitchen, Mom was preparing a cup of tea for us, and I informed her that I wanted to hang out with Vivian. Since I got back to the pack, I hadn’t gone out for shopping. Though I didn’t know how to drive a car yet, my mother had a personal driver, and she allowed me to use him. "Mom, I’ll be going shopping with Vivian, my classmate. Can I go with her?" I asked softly, looking up at Mom’s face as we sat at the dining chairs. "Sure," Mom replied to me with a smile, and I smiled back. "Thank you, Mom. I won’t stay out too long." "Alright. You’re an adult, and you’ll be 18 in a month. You’ll get more privileges to do as you like after that," she said, and I smiled. "Alright." After breakfast with my mother ended, I assisted her in cleaning the kitchen as her maids arrived. Mom turned to me and said, "Mia, I’d like for us to visit my brother, Blake Jackson, and his family so I can talk to Veronica." "Mom…" I groaned and pouted my pink lips, not wanting to talk to Veronica. "Don't worry. Get going; we’ll meet them in the holy ground tomorrow," Mom dismissed me, seeing my sullen face. "Alright, Mom. Take care too," I waved goodbye to my mother, rushing out of the kitchen as I went back to my room on the top floor. I found my phone ringing on the drawer. Taking it, I saw it was a call from my dad, and I froze. "Who told Dad about the wedding?" I wondered, anxious as I moved over to the bed to sit down and answer my father’s call. "Hello, Dad," I greeted him calmly. "Hello, Mia. How are you doing today?" Dad asked, and I relaxed. "I’m fine, Dad. Mom told me that I’m a werewolf last night, and I found my wolf, Molly. Why didn’t you tell me about who I am?" I asked him sadly, and he sighed. "I’m sorry, Mia. I didn’t want to scare you. I know that I shouldn’t have taken you away from the pack, but you were still young and clingy, and you cried to follow me," Dad explained, and I sighed, knowing that I was his favorite companion. "Why didn’t you take Mom too? You left her alone for years," I said, and my father sighed. "It’s complicated. I know that I offended your mother by leaving her, but I still love her. I just cannot quit my job and my aspirations too," Dad said, and I felt pity for him. "Dad, what if Mom wants to move on? Are you okay with that? If she doesn’t love you anymore and wants someone else? Are you willing to let go for your aspirations and not return home? Are you going to stay in London forever? What if you shift and they take you away?" I asked him sadly, tears streaming down my cheeks. "Hahaha," Dad laughed, despite hearing the brokenness in my voice. "Mia, no one will take me away. And yes, I know that I’ll grow old. I’ll come home soon; I heard your mother is getting married to Alpha David. I don’t want to stand in her happiness since she likes him," he said. "And you’re okay with that?" I asked, and Dad sighed. "I’m not okay, but I have a project that I’m working on. Maybe after this one, I’ll be back. I promise you," he said, and I sighed. "What if Mom doesn’t want you after your return? How will you cope?" "Mia, don’t worry about your mother. I know that she’s mad at me. When I’m back, I’ll settle that with your mom. If she wants me and Alpha David, it’s fine. But if she doesn’t want me anymore, I won’t force her. After all, I was the one who left her to be alone in the pack. She tried, staying single for me all these years. Despite that, I got to cheat on her here. I’ll accept whatever she gives me." "Mmm. It’s alright, Dad. Just be safe," I told him. "You too, my angel. That reminds me, when you find your mate, you should let me know and send his photo to me. I pray the Moon Goddess gives you a good mate who will treat you right and not like how I treated your mother," Dad said, and I wiped the tears from my eyes. "Alright, Dad, take care, and I’ll keep that in mind," I replied before my call with my father ended. Sighing, I didn’t know why I wasn’t truly happy about finding my mate. I feared what if I am truly mated to the triplets? Will I be able to reject them? What if they reject me after Mom gets married to their father? I hope I can do this right. I sighed again, answering the incoming call from Vivian.
