“Where’s Kai?” she asked curtly, her voice cool and clipped, like I was wasting her time.
The name hit harder than it should have.
She didn’t say Mr. McGrath.
She didn’t say 'your husband.'
She just said Kai casually, intimately. Like it was hers to say.
My lips parted, but no words came out.
Instead, I pointed toward the front entrance like a damn fool.
She didn’t thank me. Didn’t say another word. Just turned and walked away, while her heels clicked across the path.
And that’s when the anxiety hit.
