“You’re lucky you passed out in front of my parents’ yard, you know,” she said lightly, dabbing his forehead. “If they hadn’t dragged you inside, you’d be in the hospital by now. Or worse, still lying there like a tragic scene in some soap opera.”
Kai tried to chuckle, but it came out rough and strained. “Maybe that would’ve been easier for everyone.”
Abigail flicked him a look. “Don’t start with that,” she muttered, her lips twitching as if holding back a smile. “Besides, if you were gone, who else would I tease about looking like a drenched stray dog?”
He managed a crooked smile, weak but real. “A stray dog… huh?”
“Mm,” she said with mock seriousness. “Pathetic, stubborn, but somehow… still worth picking up.”
