“We, are going home… now.”
Abigail’s tone was firm and sharp enough to cut through the tense silence. She turned around the counter, her hand catching Kai’s before he could even process what she said. Her grip was steady, commanding. There was no room for protest.
Kai blinked, startled, as she tugged him toward the doorway, his body moving before his mind caught up.
But as they stepped into the living room, both froze.
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis sat on the sofa, looking completely bewildered. The morning light poured in through the curtains, catching the disbelief on their faces.
“Mom, dad,” Abigail began, her voice soft but unwavering. “Thank you for letting us in… and we’re sorry for disturbing you. But we have to go now.”
