Kai sat in the back seat of his car with one arm draped loosely against the leather rest. His gaze was fixed out the tinted window as though he could burn a hole through the world outside. He might have seem composed, detached even, but inside, every muscle was wound tight. His jaw was locked and his stillness was heavy, so heavy it carried its own kind of violence, pressing on anyone who came too close. The passenger seat's door clicked open.
