Back inside the gates, I don’t feel like going to my room- it’s nearly sunset, but the air feels too nice to be inside. Connor, Acker, and Nathanial are standing to the side, discussing whatever matters in hushed tones, so Maddie and I branch off walking around the courtyard. We go around the main building and when we come back to the group, a hot pain begins to sear in my chest. I rub it softly, but when it becomes unbearable, I have to stop. “Lincoln, what’s wrong?!” Maddie says worriedly. The pain increases, and forces me to my knees.
