I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw white eyes in the dark and heard my name whispered in a voice that did not belong to anything living. My wolf prowled inside me until dawn, restless and sharp, pacing like she was waiting for something to break. When the sun rose, the world did not feel safer. It felt worse. By late afternoon, the packhouse was buzzing with noise. Servants rushed up and down the halls. Dishes clattered. Voices echoed. The scent of roasted meat and herbs filled the building.
