She rose from her knees to walk to the door and pulled it open to find Royal standing there with a concerned look on his face.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, why?”
“I was sure I heard you talking to yourself. I was worried I had upset you, pushing you so far.”
She shook her head and held up her phone, “talking to Nyx.”
“Nyx?”
“My best friend. My only friend really, outside of work colleagues. We’ve known each other since kindergarten. She’s working on a project this weekend because her boss didn’t want her to go on a date.” She threw Nyx under the bus instead of confessing it was she who had called her. “She’s pissed off.”
