“If you are worried about repercussions towards you, don’t,” Jude assured the man who had come up to them. “We are not in the business of punishing someone for another’s insults.”
“You make it sound like you’re in the mafia,” their host’s partner joked. Alexis didn’t see a ring so she was hesitant to call them anything but partners.
Jude shrugged, “I suppose it works the same way.”
“But you can’t actually do anything,” she insisted. “I mean, you are not above the law.”
“You’re assuming they have to do anything,” Alexis said, earning a look of disapproval from the other. Evidently, the woman didn’t recognize her, or was just stupid to tempt her anger. “Once word gets out he dared anger a DaLair no one will want to do business with him.”
