Chapter Nine

"Hey, how are you feeling today?" Jacob appeared behind me. "I swear the next person to ask me that, will get a punch I will definitely punch someone!" I was getting annoyed with answering that question. It had been half a week since the incident and every single day someone had to make mention of it or ask about my well-being in fear of me having another attack. He lifted his hands up as a sign of surrender "ookay..relax, chill out just a bit I'm just checking up on you." He leaned on Amanda's locker which was right next to mine. "But of course I can see now that you’re all well and kicking." He smiled coolly at me. "Yes, Jacob I'm sorry but I am just so tired of half of the school asking me about how I am and what happened. I really just want to forget the whole thing." I closed my locker and leaned my back on it feeling a bit down, the whole situation had made my life dramatic. "Yea I understand but you must understand that we are in a boarding school, nothing dramatic really happens here so your episodes have kinda been the hot topic for both dorms." I sighed, for a first year student I was really making a name for myself. "Buut I've got something that will distract you and of course the rest of the school." Jacob tapped my arm quickly and straightened up. "There is a Halloween party this evening. One of the humans across town, that I happen to be friends with, is throwing one and I get to invite a few people. Do you wanna go? It will be a good distraction for you and half of the school that will be gate crashing " I wasn't a fan of parties. I hated large crowds, sweaty drunk people and noise all which will be found at that party. I couldn't deny though that he was right I needed a distraction. "I heard 'party!' " Hanna squealed as she jumped next to me, "Yes, I do not know what you asked her but yes Scarlett will definitely go with you to the party." "Only if Hanna and Amanda are coming too." I quickly added. She tried to protest but I wouldn't budge. If she wants me to let loose then she'd have to join in. "Okay Fine" she says giving up the useless disagreement. I smiled brightly and Jacob laughed. "Well okay then, I am glad I have not one but three beautiful ladies accompanying me tonight" He winked at us and we laughed. We heard a whistle and we all turned to look at who it was. My heart did a small flip as I saw who it was, Antonio Vedal. He looked at us his gaze staying with me a bit longer. No more death glares, just two ice blue orbes starring into my soul. He leaned against the wall with his hands in his pocket, a few of his black strands once again fell onto his face, he was a gorgeous man. He signaled for Jacob to go with him then turned around to leave. "You two hang out?" it came as a surprise to me but I guess them having being in the school before they're bound to know each other. "Yea it's a Vampire thing. We are one of the last few in these areas so we gotta stick together you know." He shrugged "But I shall see you ladies later on tonight. I'll come over at around seven. It's Halloween ladies so dress up" He winked at me smiling brightly then left. "we are 'gifted' humans what exactly are we supposed to dress up as. I mean imagine if you dressed up as a witch." Hanna kept speaking but my mind went back to Antonio, firstly it didn't occur to me that before now I didn't know what Jacob was and Antonio being a Vampire didn't sit well with me. Vampires live really long lives, I couldn't help but wonder how old he really was. "Earth to Scarlett" Hanna was waving her hand in front of my face. The bell rang and it was now time for class. "okay so I'll meet you back at the room after this last period and then we can choose what to wear. " she said before running off to her Shape-shifting class. I was now due for my Wizardry class and I was excited. Today we were going to do a transformation spell. We got to manipulate the molecular structure of an object and turn it into another object of our liking. "If you had taken the time to go through the textbook as I said so last week, you would know that this requires a high level of concentration especially if you doing it for the first time. You need to clear your mind, build the energy from within you focus all your mind power towards the object of your choice and that which you wish to change both at the same time. " Mrs. Shetty our teacher, was a small woman with red hair and a round figure. She was nice, never the one to get angry. The students feared her because it was rumored she hung a student out the classroom windows with a couple of vines when he refused to listen. She was a powerful witch and I guess non of the students wanted to mess with a powerful witch She went to stand behind her table which had a small block of wood, we each had the same block of wood on our tables. She lifted her hand above the block and closed her eyes for a bit. Red light illuminated from her hands as she focused on her block and slowly we watched as the block turned into an apple. She opened her eyes and beamed at us. "Now you guys get to try it. Remember, concentrate, look deep within yourself and bring out the magic from within you. I want everybody to clear their minds and concentrate you will be transforming that block of wood into an apple just like I did." I tried to clear my mind of all my problems and doubts, I could do this. I tried to imagine an apple. "you can use the spell books should you need any assistance with the spell for it." I opened mine to have a look I could never memorize Latin I had chosen Spanish in my last high school. "Obsequere mihi incumbit cupio voluntatem" it read. I closed my eyes and placed my hand above the block. I thought really hard about an apple then whispered the words but I heard a dog barking and then my block of wood turned into a chiwawa. Everyone turned to look at me and noticed my mess up some began to laugh. "it's okay Ms Brown just try again." Mrs Shetty took the dog away and gave me a new block. I could hear lots of sounds, I could smell different kinds of things like suddenly my senses were awake and sharpened. I only had to think about an apple but it got too difficult concentrating with so much noise. I squeezed my eyes even harder "Just an apple scar just an apple" A song bird in the far distance started to sing and my block became an exact replica of it. I opened my eyes and I couldn't believe it. "Don't you know what an apple looks like Scarlett?" Jasmine White mocked me. "It looks like this" she waved her hand in front of a block and it turned into an apple. "Ms. White, Please stay out of this" Mrs. Shetty interjected. "I was just asking a question Mrs. Shetty. I meant no harm" She smiled sweetly at our teacher but Mrs. Shetty wasn't buying into it. "Okay guys since tomorrow is a public holiday that will be all for today. I'll see you back here when we get back, now get out of my classroom I know you're dying to go get drunk" she smiled at us. Most of the students whistled in delight and made some noise. I was disheartened by my inability to do proper magic. I took my bags and headed towards the garden to clear my head. I walked and sat at the spot I have now claimed to be my own but when I got there someone was already there. I sat next to Antonio just like we did so previously. We didn't talk at all. I was sulking over the fact that I couldn't control my magic. I needed to learn it I needed to master this if my plan is going to work. "Obsequere mihi incumbit cupio voluntatem" I held up a small plant whispering the words and trying to concentrate but nothing happened. "Every object has a soul" his voice said from besides me. I didn't want to look at him although my whole body was screaming at me to look up and indulge myself in his handsome face.
