Liz I woke up to the sound of humming drifting from the kitchen and the unmistakeable scent of breakfast sizzling in a skillet. For a long moment, I simply laid there staring at the ceiling as the fan turned lazily overhead, its rhythmic hum filled the otherwise quiet room. The other side of the bed was empty, as expected. It didn't make the ache in my chest hurt any less. Why had some foolish part of me hoped that he'd come anyway? Just for a moment. A minute even. Just to see me.
