My eyes were reddened as the tears continued to flow, and every so often, I would take a long sniff, a desperate measure to stop my nose from running. All I wanted was a proper homecoming; that was why I had informed them on time. I wouldn’t even make it on the day I planned, and I came a day later, yet no one would think of cleaning up my room. With teary, unfocused eyes, I surveyed the area—my room that looked more like an abandoned house, the type you see in haunted places. Only everything was still as I left it. The towel I had kept on the chair in my hurry to go out. The clothes on my bed that I hadn’t bothered to keep away.
