Simone could see that tears glistened ever so slightly in Katie’s eyes. She was ready to tell her not to answer if she wasn’t comfortable with it, and go for a dare instead, when Katie answered, seemingly choking on her words, “I trusted him. He was caring, and very much a detail freak, but also full of himself and deceitful to the bone.”
Having said so, she sat abruptly, and focused on her phone without delay.
Jeremy sported a crestfallen expression for a total three seconds, and Simone would have missed it had she blinked. But she had indeed caught it, and she felt that Katie might have been a bit harsh… but then again, love could be tricky like that.
Before long, only two slots remained, and the last one was no other than Serpent.
