Prologue

The Moon Remembers. Long before the wolves howled beneath a crimson sky, the Moon made a pact before the stars turned away in silence. It was not born of love, but of desperation. When man’s greed cracked open the veil between realms, and night creatures spilled into mortal lands, the Moon offered balance in the form of a guardian—a spirit forged of light and shadow. He bore no name then, only purpose. He became protector, judge, and executioner. The first and last line between harmony and ruin. But such power demanded sacrifice. So the Moon decreed: Every hundred years, one woman would be chosen—pure in blood, marked by fate—to become the Luna. Bride of the Moon Spirit. Anchor of his soul. Together, they would renew the balance, and the realm would remain whole. For a time, the pact held. Until she came. The last Luna. She broke the vow. And the guardian broke with her. In his grief, the Moon Spirit twisted, corrupted by sorrow and rage. His sacred form shattered, replaced by fur and fang. No longer a protector, he became the Dread Wolf—a cursed being haunting the edges of the world, tearing through the veil he once guarded. The kingdom withered. The moon grew cold. And the cycle began anew. Now, under the rise of a blood moon, the mark has returned—this time, on the skin of a girl born under silence, raised in shadows. Her name is Aurelia Virelle. She does not know it yet, but the Moon has chosen her. And the Dread Wolf is waiting.
