Chapter 16   Life is good. Work is going great, Aiden and Trent have been busy securing a few more contracts for a new mall on the other side of town and office blocks with fancy apartments nearby. Business is good. A few weeks left until our wedding day, all the details are sorted. Venue, caterers, evening entertainment, flowers and all the trimmings. Donna, Hazel and Liz have been amazing with helping finalise all the details. I would have done it myself, but Trent insisted that they help, he doesn’t want me to be too stressed with my pregnancy and all the wedding plans at the same time. He really does care too much but I love him for it. Trent and I had talked to Liz about my time when I stayed with them as my foster parents. After the whole thing with Melissa, I was a little bit more intrigued to find my family, if I even had another family that I didn’t know about. Liz was able to contact an old friend of hers that she knew from the fostering days, and he was able to get more details of my parents. So, with the new information, Trent had hired an investigator to search for any other information they could find on any other family members. We are currently waiting at home for his investigator to arrive as he called wanting a meeting. Which can only mean he has found something that he feels we need to talk about face to face as all other previous communication has been done via email or phone calls. “I’m nervous” I tell Trent as I pace back and forth in the lounge. “Baby sit down. You will wear the carpet out” Trent tries to joke to lighten my mood. “Sorry.” I mutter as I sit on the edge of the sofa and ring my hands together. My palms are sweaty and I’m feeling nauseous. Just then the doorbell rings, I practically jump from my seat and run to the door to answer. “Ms Benson, I’m Mr Taylor” a tall, slim balding man stands at the doorway. “Please come in, and call me Avery” I tell him, opening the door wider and moving aside to let him in. Trent comes to greet Mr Taylor and shows him into the lounge. I follow them through as Trent reaches for my hand and pulls me to sit beside him on the sofa as Mr Taylor takes the single seat in the corner. He lifts his briefcase to his lap and the lip pops open and he pulls out a file a good few inches thick. “Well, I have found some information, I hope is what you have been looking for” he says as he hands me the file and I just look at it. Not sure if I can actually believe this is happening. “The file in your hand Avery, is basically a small family tree. I was able to locate both sets of grandparents, who live in Scotland. Your parents actually moved from Scotland to America and were only in the country a few weeks before they died. Also, you have a few Uncles and Aunts and cousins. Most of them reside in Scotland, but a couple of your cousins actually live here.” He tells me as I sit and stare at the file in my hand.  Unable to comprehend what he is telling, Trent takes the file and starts to flick through the information. I have a full family on the other side of the world. “Scotland, I was told they came from England.” I say as Trent shows me a copy of my birth certificate, which states my parents were from Scotland, not that it makes that much of difference, it’s still on the other side of the world. Mr Taylor starts talking again but I have kind of zoned out and not really listening anymore, as I take the file from Trent and start skimming though the various papers and photographs of people. I sit and stare at 1 picture in particular, it’s a picture of my parents with me in my mothers arms, looks like were are at an airport or train station. Two older couples stand behind us. “Your grandparents” Trent whispers as he puts his arm over my shoulder. I nod my head not trusting my voice to make any sounds. A little while later Mr Taylor leaves, as we see him out, Hazel and Philip arrive just as Mr Taylors car heads out of the drive. We are all sitting around the lounge with the file Mr Taylor left scattered across the place. “Avery, sweetie. There is a phone number here for your fathers parents” Hazel says as she shows me the paper with their contact details. “I..I cant.. I cant call them yet” I mumble and stutter. I say as I stand and head through to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I soon her footsteps follow me through. I’m standing at the window looking out at the garden as I feel arms wrap around my waist from behind, “Baby, you ok?” Trents whispers in my ear as he rests his head on my shoulder. “Yeah, it’s a lot to take in” I say as I turn myself around and wrap my arms his waist and snuggle my face into his chest. “I know it must be. But it must be a good thing too. We have found your family baby.” He says as we sway back and forth, almost dancing to non-existent music. “I have questions I need answered but I’m scared of the answers” I say as I stop and look up at Trent. “I’m sure you have a thousand of questions for them, and I will help you get those answers baby. We will get them, I promise” he says as he places a kiss on the top of my head. We head back through to the lounge, Hazel and Philip have tided up the papers and photographs and put them back in the file. “Sweetie, I’m sorry if I upset you” Hazel says as she comes over to give me comfort. “You didn’t. I just got a little overwhelmed with all this new information, that I have only ever dreamed of having.” I tell her as we sit back on the sofa. “Of course. I can only imagine what is going through your mind at this moment.” She says as she gives me another side hug. “Why don’t you sleep on it tonight, and take a fresh look at this tomorrow, or the next day. Whenever you are ready, we will support you?” Philip says as he comes over to sit beside us on the sofa. “Yeah, sounds like a good idea. My head is about to burst with all this” I say as I wave my hand over the file on the table infront of me. After a few more hours and after we ate dinner and cleared up. Hazel and Philip leave to head home as its getting late and they insist I need to rest, after an eventful day. And that is exactly what I do as soon as the pull out of the driveway. We close the door, lock up the house and head straight to bed.
