The Alpha's Rejected Fairy

Chapter 7

"If that thing doesn't be quiet soon … I'll make it shut the f**k up!" The shorter man threatened , glaring at the cage .

I stiffened at his words , they were actually planning to harm an innocent baby ? My blood boiled at that thought . No way in hell was that happening under my watch .

I pulled my blade out as I slowly approached them , never taking my eyes off either men.

"Let the baby go!" I shouted , my hands tightening around the blade .

Their gazes snapped up in my direction and they both took me in for a few seconds in complete silence . The men gave each other confused looks before doubling over in laughter .

"And what are you going to do about it little fairy ?" The one with the blond hair asked  , shaking his head at me as though I were insane to think that I could harm either one of them . I hated when anyone referred to fairies as 'little ' , we weren't exactly little , just not as big as the rest of species that inhabited the land .

My jaw clenched , these men were in for a surprise . I'd taught myself to fight over the past ten years and I knew how to handle a blade well . The man with the blond hair leaned against the wall with a fake yawn . "I'll leave you to handle her Finn ."

The one named Finn turned to me with a wicked smile . He focused on something behind me , my mind worked fast as it dawned on me that he was about to use a summoning spell , I ducked just in time preventing a chair from hitting my back . I watched as the object crashed into the wall .My eyes narrowed , he was most definitely an experienced witch , I wasn't dealing with amateurs . Which meant I needed to get the baby and escape from here as quickly as I could .

I dodged another one of his attacks and charged forward with my blade in hand , my first swipe grazing his neck . The witch turned to me with an angry sneer while the one with blond hair finally joined the fight , sensing that I actually knew what I was doing . His eyes narrowed at the same exact time I felt a striking pain in my head .

Shit! He had the power of pain infliction . I blinked through the pain , his attack made it hard to concentrate , the pain preventing me from dodging one of Finn's attack . I fell to the ground as the chair from earlier crashed into me . I groaned in pain as the men chuckled at my fall .

"Giving up already ? " Finn teased .

A soft cry escaped the baby a little distance away from me , my eyes narrowed as determination to save her rushed through my veins , fueling my power.

It was time … I shut my eyes closed and focused on the power within . As always , the words that my parents always told me through my training sessions flew across my mind … ' Close your eyes Fay and be one with the light , let it shine within and that same brightness within you would shine on the outside ..'

I opened my eyes as I heard the scream of the witches . 

"I can't f*****g see !" They both shouted .

I didn't waste any time as I rushed to the cage . 

I took the crying baby in my hand looking around me , the bright light wouldn't last long .

I took her and flew off into the sky , knowing it would be way more difficult for them to find me that way . I felt another sharp pain but this time in my wings , the witch was still attacking from the ground ! The attack was too strong and I went crashing to the ground . I would have fallen to the ground if two strong hands didn't catch me .

My eyes glanced up and connected with cold silvery eyes that pierced straight through me, my body shivered as my heart rate sped up . The Alpha King continued to study my face in silence , his breathing getting harder by the second .Without thinking I reached over and touched the hair that had fallen on his forehead , I felt as though I was in some sort of trance as my fingers gently closed around the soft strand , unable to stop myself  .  His eyes slowly closed and his nostrils flared as if he was taking in my scent . When he opened them again they were clouded with a raw primal hunger that tore a gasp from me , weakening my composure even further  . My breathing increased , the hot look in his eyes triggering it and completely turning me on . The baby stirred in my arms bringing our attention to her and I quickly dropped my hand as her small movement brought me back to reality .

Cayden's brow rose in confusion as he studied the baby in my arms . " What are you doing with a royal shifter's baby ?"

"Royal?"

What was he talking about ?

"That's a royal baby ." Cayden informed me .

"What? How do you know that ?" I demanded in shock .

Cayden gave me an incredulous look . " Are you serious ?" He asked . " Look at the diamond tattoo engraved on her temple , everyone knows a dragon shifter's baby who's born of royalty has one of those ."

I followed his gaze and sure as hell there was a black mark in the shape of a diamond on the side of the baby's face . I actually have heard of that before , dragon shifters were born with those on their faces once the baby was of royalty , however I hadn't noticed before since I was trying to escape from those witches .

I gasped … the witches, I had totally forgotten about them ! I glanced around me , scanning our surroundings and spotted them a distance away . Their gazes connected with mine but as soon as they saw Cayden they immediately stopped advancing .

Cayden followed my gaze . " Who are they ?" He asked me , studying the two men .

As soon as they saw Cayden's eyes on them the men immediately retreated . I watched them go in shock , was everyone THAT afraid of Cayden ? I mean I always knew people feared him but to that extent ? I've heard most of the stories but this was the first time other than the time in the ballroom that I had seen even powerful creatures retreat from a fight just by looking at him .

" I found them in an alley with this baby locked in a cage , I don't know what they wanted from her or why they had her there but I wasn't about to leave a baby in the hands of those monsters ." I explained , Cayden's gaze hardening with each word that came out my mouth . His whole posture changed as his entire body tensed .

"Are you f*****g insane ?" He shouted , his voice coming out sharper than a knife . " What the hell were you thinking getting involved in something like that ?" He roared ,  his eyes locking me in a cold stare as he waited for me to respond . I took a quick glance around me and noticed that everyone were looking at me with pity , almost as if they were scared that he was about to strike me . I also noticed that they all kept their distance , so it was true … everyone really feared the mighty Alpha King .

"Why are you even concerned with what I do ?" I demanded , suddenly remembering our first encounter in the woods . He had acted like he hated my existence and he also seemed as though he didn't believe I were his mate , instead he thought I'd done something to him … at least that's what I had grasped from out first meeting .

Cayden's gaze hardened and he immediately let go of me , putting distance between us . My body instantly cried out at the loss of not having him near , missing his closeness and the feelings that it brought along with it .

"I'll never be concerned about a fairy ." He informed me , his voice laced with anger. " In fact that's what I want to talk to you about."

My forehead creased at his words , talk to me about ?

"What exactly are you speaking about ?" I asked quietly as I searched his face waiting for him to respond .

"Never in a million years did I think I'll ever have a mate who wasn't a she wolf ."He growled . " I can never accept the fact that you are my mate … a fairy will NEVER be my f*****g mate."

My eyes widened in shock and horror , was he trying to say what I thought he was trying too ?

"Are you saying you're rejecting me then ?" I demanded , bracing myself for his response .

"You can take it however you want to Fay ."He said , his face void of any emotion.

My belly twisted in agony at his words .

I should be okay with this , shouldn't I ? After all I've been rejected all my life , I should be used to this by now … being rejected by people who were supposed to love me .

Then why did it hurt so much ?
