Chapter 38

1789 Words

Dayshawn was the last person I expected to join us for dinner that night. He came all the way from Manila in his khaki shorts and white shirt. All he had in hand was his phone, which he used for directions. His eyes were wide when Razbill opened the door to his gentle knocks and expectantly found me behind his brother.  We hardly locked doors but expecting no visitor after sunset, Razbill and I stepped to the foyer to check who it could be. He initiated to take the lead while signalling me to stay behind. I had no one in mind and I could tell he never expected it to be Dayshawn either. His attentiveness didn't waver. If anything, it was as if the sight of his brother outside gave more reason to be vigilant.  I remembered stuttering Dayshawn's name and walking past Razbill to get to him.
