Unnamed mate

~ Back at my mansion at Caelmont, I refused to leave her side even when my doctor told me she would be fine. She lost a lot of blood and wasn’t healing by herself. Which was confusing, seeing as wolves had self healing. And the more time she spent unconscious, the more I thought I was going to lose my mind, waiting. “Alpha.” My beta, Owen walked into the room, to inform me of something I guess was a priority, but there was nothing more important than her at that moment. “The other alphas called again. And they are threatening to come down here themselves if you don’t….” “Tell them to f**k right off.” I growled, my wolf pushing past me. And he immediately lowered his gaze in submission. A whimper followed, snapping my head to the woman who had not moved once since she went under days ago. I moved closer, my heart racing, my mind reeling. “Wake up.” I whispered. Needing those eyes to open before I completely lost it. She did. Then whimpered and shot her eyes right back up before she opened them again. I stopped breathing at the sight of those bright, beautiful green eyes. Fuck. It was criminal to look this beautiful. Yet, she was, and she was mine. Her eyes roamed the room unsteadily till it came back to me. My wolf lost it. I jumped, straddling her and leaning in too quickly to see her face better. That was a terrible move. She shot off the bed in panic and slammed her head right into mine. I winced, grabbing her head and caressing the spot that must hurt. “Don’t move so much.” I whispered. Her skin was soft and warm. And touching her had my wolf wagging his tail. She glared at me. “Get off me.” Her first words came harsh and gritty for not talking for so many days. “You are safe.” I reassured, taking in her scent. It was even more intoxicating. The smell of rain was soft, calming, grounding. I could smell this all day. “I said you should get off me.” She slapped my hand away, fire spilling into her eyes. My heart stopped and started again. She was beautiful and gracious and that fire did things to me. “Nothing is going to happen to you, I promise,” I reassured. But that only seemed to make her worse. “Hmm hmm.” Owen cleared his throat, earning a growl from me. “Maybe, you should get off her before saying that.” He added. I frowned. I didn’t want to. But the glare she gave me was enough to prove his point. I reluctantly eased off her. Her heart slowed down by a bit and she looked around frantically for something. Her gun and dagger, I guessed. I moved closer to the drawer and pulled them out, then I handed them to her. Her eyes widened, but she took them and clutched them tightly, ready to aim if I made any move. My beta growled, and I snapped my gaze at him. He didn’t back down. Not when it came to my safety. He didn’t care that she was my mate. But I didn’t have the time for him so I turned back to her. “My name is Kael. Found you injured in the woods.” I explained. “The wolves after you are gone, but you were bleeding out, so I brought you here.” She stared. “You saved me?” The sound of her weak voice pierced my heart. “Owen. Food, water, now.” I ordered. He took his f*****g time, but after a warning look from me, he walked away. “Not really. You held your ground quite well by yourself.” I answered, grinning proudly. She frowned and forced herself to a sitting position. I placed a pillow behind her back until she was comfortable and I found her watching me closely. Heat spread all over my body and I couldn’t help the stupid heat I felt at the back of my ears. She held her necklace, watching it closely, then sighed in relief. But she didn’t speak before Owen came walking in. I handed the water to her, which she took warily. She eyed the food even more, but she ate at last. Once she was done, she turned to me. “Can I have my phone?” I brought it out of my pocket. “Here, it kept ringing, so I took it away to help you sleep.” She didn’t take it immediately. She just stared. Lots of questions in her eyes. Lots of doubts, lots of confusion that had me wondering, could she not tell? Could she not feel the bond snapping us together as one? The same bond that made my wolf f*****g restless and left my skin tingling with the need to touch her. “You look familiar.” She entered after a moment. I grinned, happy that she knew me. “Maybe from one of my movies.” She frowned. “No, I don’t really watch movies.” My heart fell. “Hollywood?” She shook her head. “You must know Jason Statham.” Another shake. “The rock.” “The wrestler with too much muscles.” She scrunched her nose. I smiled. “Yes.” “There are others. Like Vin Diesel, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Gal Gadot, Kael Thorne.” She scrunched her nose again and I think my heart fell apart. Not sure if it was because she looked f*****g adorable doing that or because she lived in a rock. “You are joking.” “Fast and furious franchise? Mission impossible, xxx, wonder woman, superman, spiderman, squid game, the witcher????” She shook her head at all and my heart truly fell apart. I held my chest. “Not knowing any of this, not knowing me, is diabolical.” “Do you live in mars?” She chuckled. And for a moment, everything else died. And my wolf howled. She stopped herself when she noticed me staring and I mentally slapped myself. “I do not like movies, never seen the point, never had the time.” “You are committing a serious crime against mankind.” Her lips stretched into what I thought would be another chuckle, but she forced it down. “You are an actor?” She asked. I perked up. “How did you know?” “You added your name to the list like a deranged person.” I grinned. “Excuse for being flustered that you don’t know me.” A smile attempted to come on her lips, but she stopped it once more. That was f*****g annoying. “What kind of job doesn’t even let you watch movies?” I made the wrong move. I knew that when her smile completely vanished and her green eyes turned darker. “I have to go.” She pulled the blanket away from her legs. And attempted to step down. “Wait, you can’t.” Her beautiful eyes hardened and snapped to me like f*****g blades, and Owen stood alert. Goddess, I was going to punch him after this. “Why not? Am I a prisoner? “What? No.” What was she talking about? “You are injured, can barely work. You need rest.” She visibly eased up. “I will, thank you so much for everything. But I have to go.” She insisted. And something told me I had to let her go. “Okay. I will drop you off.” I said. Her eyes narrowed, and she shook her head and got up. But her legs gave way, and I was holding her so quickly, it scared even more. She gasped, her scent turning more wind than rain. And her soft skin turned to an immediate addiction. She was so soft and perfect in my arms. f**k, I didn’t want to let her go. “You can barely work.” Now, there was a hardness in my tone that proved I was on the edge. She shuddered and quietly nodded her head. I calmed down and noticed the fire that was slowly spreading through my skin, the tingling that wouldn’t stop from the place I touched skin. I should let her go before I burned from the inside out. I instead lifted her up and headed to the bathroom. “What are you doing?” she screamed, panic returning to her voice. “You need to freshen up. You’ve been unconscious for three days.” She stiffened as I dropped her and turned on the tub. She watched, her confusion growing. It was bouncing all over her, confusing me even more. But I let her have a bathe alone, when all I wanted to do was press her skin against mine. I provided her clothes, allowed her change before I went back in. “Thank you for everything.” She entered nervously and it only grew, changing her scent and heart rate. When I didn’t say anything, she began tapping her fingers against her leg. “Come on.” I lifted her into my arms, unable to hold back. I just wanted to touch her, feel her warmth, feel the tingling, feel her softness. It was more wind, than rain now. Almost like the saltiness of the ocean and amongst this scent, were others. Earth, rain, tree, nature, then the f*****g nothing. How could she smell like rain and earth and everything yet nothing and how was her scent changing. That was wrong, so f*****g wrong. But she was definitely my mate. How come she couldn’t tell? Or was she pretending to not feel this? Why would she pretend about this? What was happening? My wolf pushed against me, fear taking over our emotions. “I can walk.” I pulled her closer to me, needing her scent to calm the torrent of emotions swelling in my heart. I was losing it. But I was going to be patient. Fuck, being patient was not my strength. And it seems that was all I had been doing all week. I took her to the car and asked her for directions. She wasn’t staying in any of the hotels, to my surprise. But with a wolf that wasn’t a member of my pack. It unsettled me. When we arrived at the diner, I realized it was filled up to the brim. And I could not go in with her. If anyone saw both of us together, I feared the danger she would be in, especially since she wasn’t from around here. And the paparazzi could go nuts too. “Thank you for everything.” Her voice broke my thought, and I closed my hand into a fist. She tried opening the door, but when it didn’t budge, she turned to me. Her eyes wide, the doubt was creeping in and her scent became more erratic. So, it had something to do with her emotions. I stilled, unable to hold her back. Something told me that would definitely be the wrong move. Maybe she was scared of me. Did she think I was a rogue? Like the ones that attacked her in the woods. That was impossible, they had a distinct scent, all wolves knew that. And if I wanted to hurt her, why save her in the first place? Why were they after her in the first place? Fuck. Not now. Definitely not now. “I will come back later to check on you. Promise to be careful.” I unlocked the door, ignoring my wolf and the tear in my heart. She offered me a small smile, and it took my breath away. “I will.” She turned and limped out of the car to my agony. Once she was inside, I saw Ellen running to her. Then I picked my phone. “Keep men watching her at every second of the day.” I ordered Owen. “And get me all the file you have on her, this instance.” “Her name?” Owen asked, and I froze. Fuck. “I don’t know.” I mumbled. “Alpha.” I swear he was laughing from the other end of the line. “Shut up Owen. Figure it out.” I ended the call.
