Chapter 7: Judge Lisa

Outside the boardroom Liam and Edison were on their feet pacing up and down the hallway. The meeting was taking longer than they anticipated and all they could think about was the worst. Seated on a bench with no signs of worry was coach Brooks. "How are you staying calm Coach? You might be losing your sniper in front of the goal" "Because I have trained myself to lower my expectations captain and I think maybe you should do that" "Am sure it didn't take you a day to master that sorry coach but am gonna have to pass" Liam took a seat anyway. When Jake came out flaunted by David Lee and a couple of board members the three gentlemen rushed to meet him. "How did it go?" Edison asked. "Wait a minute what's David doing here?" Liam noticed. "I'll explain later, Coach Brooks" Jake said shaking his hand. The coach shook it back nodding his head gently. He was a man of few words outside the pitch. You should have seen him yell during training. "Are we still working here or what?" Interrupted Edison. "That's depends on how this trip is will end, let's go" "Where?" "We are going to find Lisa" Jake said leading the way. The paparazzi were outside the offices with their cameras waiting for Jake to say anything but instead he rudely went past them. His face said it all, he didn't want anything to do with them and they were smart enough not to push it. They created a path for him taking photos and asking questions he didn't bother to answer. "This guy's love you" David joked. "Their love is toxic my friend, trust me you don't want it" Jake said strapping in his seat belt. His agent and Liam took the front seats and Liam drove them away "I hope you don't get annoyed much because they are just working you know" said David. "Can't they just work without ruining other people's careers and reputation on the way" Edison argued sending the car into a frenzy. Although he was laughing but Jake was scared. Lisa had tagged him her location which was really promising because according to him she wouldn't do that if she was married and it was also a hotel room. The next few minutes were very important in his life. Nothing made sense to him than football. It was not just passion, it was embedded in every inch of him by a carving knife and he wanted to do it at the best club in the world and if you asked anyone around it was the HFC. And there was no football with his reputation in the mud. "So what are we looking at right now man, Eddy and I are in the dark" "Don't worry I will tell you everything, just drive to the Pearl hotel I've shared the GPS location with you" "Telling me not to worry is like telling water not to get wet, I fuckin Love you men" said Liam checking his phone. "You two have some perfect bromance" David pointed out, "No wonder you're a joy to watch on the field" "He doesn't love me like I do" Jake said smiling. "You suck!" Said Liam. Lisa When he called I had just come from shopping for greens and snacks. Upon tagging him my location I quickly started doing damage control. My room was looking messy and asking for my location could only mean one thing, he was coming over. I opened the windows to let in some fresh air and some light. My curtains were always drawn. Don't blame me my life was cold to an extent I lived like a vampire. No sunlight. I had also bought a bunch of Movies and not just any movies, horror movies and those that involved some other level of ruthlessness. The likes of saw, I spit on your grave, Chris rock's the spiral and anything that involved female characters inflicting agony on male characters. Weird right? That was me planning to torture David. The heartbreak was not my first but it was the first one that really got under my skin because I worked so hard to make it work with him. It left me unhinged. I was finishing up with my laundry and cleaning the bathroom when a soft knock on my door interrupted my humming. I exhaled sharply and dried my hands with a towel, made my hair and walked to the door confidently. My baggy sleeping T-shirt and a pair of Capri pants looked like a perfect dress code for me. "Who's there?" I asked my hand on the door knob. "It's me, hotel security" That was a relief. Honestly I wasn't ready to meet him, not when I surely was the cause of his f****d up life. Saying No when he offered to help me at the club would have solved his problems. When I opened the door... "Hi stranger" Jake said flashing a smile. Got played. And to make matters worse he was not alone. "Hi, come in, who are your friends?" I asked opening the door wide open with a glare at the security guy. "This is Liam" he said, and I remembered him from the previous night in the VIP room, “My Agent Edison and..." "David Lee, who doesn't know the legal genius am I in trouble?" "No, you're not. Can we talk from inside you opened the door but you're literally blocking us so" "Ooh, yeah, come all in. Welcome to my humble abode" I said showing them in. That was the first time my hotel room was getting more than one visitor which just shows how far from humanity I was. The gentlemen sat on the same coach. Jake was stealing glances at me while his counterparts were admiring the art and decor on the wall. I might have been a loner but the room was still attractive. "Can I get you guys anything?" "A glass of juice would be nice" Liam said. My guess shifted to the other guys and I was really hoping they asked for something that was in stock. Beer and maybe water to quench their thirst with the extreme afternoon heat or maybe scotch. "He speaks for all of us" Jake said. "Okay juice coming up, make yourselves comfortable" The TV was on, MTV channel, at least it was the only one showing something else apart from my face and Jakes. In the small kitchen I rinsed my glasses and from the fridge got a bottle of juice shook it well before I checked the expiry date. Might have been disorganized but one thing I didn't want was my guests to complain of food poisoning moments after visiting me. "You have a nice house" Jake said from the kitchen door, he scared me, in a good way though. "But it’s just a hotel room I have owned for seventy two hours, anyway means a lot coming from a guy who owns a house at hilltop, how long have you been standing there?" I asked walking from the fridge to the sink as though he was not standing there. His eyes were following my movements and yes it was making me really uncomfortable what if this time it wasn't paint? "Long enough to realize how clean you're" "Why are you here Jake? I mean the kitchen" "I figured you might need some help carrying the juice" he was walking around his eyes looking at my utensils and stickers on the door of the fridge. "That's why I have this" I said showing him a tray. "But I still want to help" "Forgive me for saying this but your stubbornness..." "Will be the end of me I know, right now am in trouble because I couldn't control my urge to help a pretty girl that I met in the club" As he spoke my eyes were on him and he kept talking without realizing it. He sounded to me like he was regretting. At least he thought am pretty. I mean it was obvious but guys like him had met so many pretty girls, prettier than me and him calling me pretty was kind of a big deal. "What?" He realized. "Nothing" I quickly went back to arranging the glasses, "am sorry okay. Let's just get your friends this juice and then we can talk from the balcony" "No, am not regretting anything here. Am sure you would have done the same besides am guilty as charged" "Can we go?" I said carrying a tray, on it four glasses and a plastic transparent jug of mango juice. "Yeah, what am I carrying? I might have told the guys that am coming to help so it will be so awkward if I go back empty handed" "Ooh bring the cookies on the top shelve" I left him to fumble with my disorganized snacks shelf and went back to the living room. The lawyer was admiring my library of books and movies. Most of them were relationship books that I never read. When he saw me he returned a copy of my favorite movie, guess the name....how to get away with murder. Although I added something small there...how to get away with murdering David. He must have seen it. "Sorry Mrs..." "Daniels, juice is served. Didn't know you read books like those" "I read everything, thank you for the juice. Where is Jake?" Coincidentally something ceramic or glass fell and broke in the kitchen. I looked like I wanted to say something about with my face and the agent guy realized. "Go, we got this" he said. "Thank you, don't worry this won’t talked long" I said managing a smile. In my head I wanted to smash his handsome face on a floor made of broken glass. Scratch that his face was money...his balls...not that they were amazing too. "What the hell happened here?" "I broke your plate don't worry I will buy..." "Hey handsome, not everything can be replaced by money. Unless you're planning to raise my grandmother from the dead you can't replace that plate" I said and arranged the cookies on another plate. That was a lie, that wasn’t my grandmother’s plate. "Am so sorry" From the scared look on his face, he bought it. The look was priceless and would have loved to capture it on my phone, yeah just to help me get through the excruciating period pains. "Come on let me clean this, take the cookies to your friends" "Once again am sorry" I couldn't hold the laughter anymore so I lost it. Jake She played me. That one I could tell from that c***k of a smile on her face. We were game already. If she agreed to be my girlfriend we would fool the entire world in a matter of days. "Let me take this cookies then I'll deal with you" I threatened gently and left her laughing her head off. "What took you so long dude?" Asked Liam. "Broke a few things, I'll be right back" I said quickly turning around. "Wait!" Said lee causing a hiatus in my swift movement, "A word" We both went to the dining. He kept adjusting his red tie and looking at Eddy and Liam. "Is this private?" "Yes, just a tip. Since we came in I've been trying to read the girl you know psychologically it's a thing we lawyers do" "And?" My curiosity was justified, I needed every help I could get to break it to her and I was sure lee was there to help. "She is having relationship problems, probably heartbroken" "What does this mean for me?" "Your proposal can go either way. But your chances of success are high. Just bring out that charm of yours" he pat me on the back and walked away quickly. When I got in the kitchen I found her looking outside the window her elbows supporting her head and her ass...Wow. I was getting memories of my hands grabbing it in two large chunks the previous night as she rode me to breathlessness. "Why are you here Jake, how bad is it and how can I help?" She asked. Though heavy, my feet carried me to where she was. We were now both staring outside at nothing really, the vast ocean and people enjoying a swim "They look happy don't they?" I asked trying to deflect. "Don't do that" "Do what?" "Slug, were you fired at your job because of the controversy surrounding us?" "Can we talk somewhere, like over a cup of coffee? I promise I will tell you everything" "The balcony" she said quickly getting a flask and two cups, "Grab the coffee and a couple of spoons. Don't break anything" "I won't" Buying time. That was what I was doing but one way or another it had to come out and she had to make that choice
