Adam looked at me with a much too composed expression after I told him everything that happened with Alistair and how his best friend is essentially threatening to blackmail me, that my heart sinks to the bottom of my stomach. So much for fate being on my side. Of course he doesn’t believe a word I told him. In fact, he must be analysing everything we ever talked about, thinking that I somehow planned everything. “I have to go. The event will start soon.” A lie. There's plenty of time.
