I’m not even sure what is happening. I sat in the creek to try to get the blood off of me. I’m too stunned to move, though. Audrey sits in the water in front of me, bringing water in her hand and dropping it on my stained skin.

“Haven’t we all?” Audrey asks with a small smile. “What happened?”
I place my hand over my stomach. “I shifted.”
