*Calvin* *Flashback* It’s Christmas. I tiptoe out of my bedroom and into the main room. There is no tree. There are no gifts. There’s not even a fire lit, and it’s freezing. I check the calendar- December 25. I’m sure it’s today. Santa didn’t come. It’s because I didn’t protect my brothers. It’s because I didn’t save my mother. Gus said I don’t have a sister, so he doesn’t even know if she’s OK. I go back to bed and quietly cry myself to sleep. When I wake up again, breakfast is ready. Porridge. I don’t dislike it, but I’m getting tired of it. It’s been a long time since Gus came, and our food is getting low with the cold weather. Still, I eat it to help warm me.
