I always thought the wolves had to stay in their pack territory. As we ran, I convinced myself that we just needed to get into the rogue land, and we would be safe. The King’s warriors came after us, but our mother’s warning gave us a head start. I thought we’d be fine once we crossed, but I can hear them behind us, catching up. They came into the rogue land.
“Faster,” I tell Lily.
It’s no use. Our human legs aren’t fast enough to escape a pack of wolves. We aren’t human, though. We’re witches. I turn back and throw my power at a tree, knocking it down and into the path behind us. It slows the wolves.
Lily and I take turns throwing trees into the path behind us as we run. The cabin is getting close. We’ll be safe if we get there.
