Despite my efforts to remain neutral, I couldn't prevent myself from sucking in a sharp breath while staring at the screen of my phone. Who could have poisoned Luna Penelope? Everyone around them in the Shadow Crawler's pack were friendly and obedient.
That seemed to be the case. Yet, this only proved that things weren't how they appeared to be.
"Is something wrong?" Lilly asked me. Looks like they caught the sudden changes in my countenance.
I switched off the phone as I glanced at her.
"Sort of… it's… it's my mom. She suddenly got sick," I told her. I had to lie again. I couldn't possibly tell them the truth. That would blow my cover.
"Oh, that's sad. Does this mean you might have to leave soon?" Gail asked.
I pursed my lips, contemplating on the matter.
"Maybe."
