CHAPTER ONE

CHAPTER ONE.

With one last touch to my makeup, my lips curl into a tiny smile. Looking back at the piece of paper on the dressing table; my heart swells in joy. Zachary will be so happy when he hears about the news that is he about to become a father and also I am about to produce an heir to the pack.

We have been together for four years before we both manifested as mates and you can already imagine the excitement that comes with it. Becoming a Luna at my age is something other wolves would die for but it came to me on a platter of gold.

Finally, I can proudly look at him in the face and tell him that he is about to become a father. Shortly after our mark and mate ceremony four years ago, his father died and he became the alpha of the blood moon pack, one of the most deadliest and powerful packs and people feared him. To others, he is a ruthless man but to me, he is the sweetest man i know and I can not wait to share this good news with him.

A knock on the door jolts me out of my thoughts.

“Luna” a voice filters in, “the car is ready for you”

“Okay, I will be down soon” I reply as my excitement intensifies. I have planned a surprise visit to his office and I can’t wait to see the look on his face when he sees me. He had been so busy these past few days due to his line of work. He owns one of the biggest hospitals in Texas with branches all over the country where he treats humans and wolves too, but this is only known to the lot of us.

He told me he has four vip clients and he has been taking care of them which makes it almost impossible for him to come home on some days, I cannot blame him. Be it the pack or the human world, Zach takes everything seriously.

Finally, l am finish touching up my make up and grab my bag before making my way out of the room.

“You look so beautiful Luna” Anika says, she is one of the omega wolves and let’s just say taking care of me is her favorite thing to do.

“Thank you. You can tell the workers to retire when they are done. The alpha and I will return late”

“Of course”

With that, I hasten towards the front door and in no time, the car zooms off the premises.

After about thirty minutes, we finally come to a halt in front of the hospital and i slowly alight, drinking in the sight of my husband’s achievements. How I love that man with everything inside of me.

“Wait here, Pete” I tell the driver and he nod.

Walking into the hospital, all eyes turn to me and of course they know I am the wife of their director. Some smile at me while some sneer at me but that’s the least of my worries.

I can’t even get mad at them for sneering at me, Zach is literally the most handsome man I have ever seen. Well chiseled face, a sharp jawline and those blue eyes of his, he also makes my toes curl when I see him. I am the proudest Luna to walk the face of the earth and I carry that crown well.

“Good evening Mrs Hills” Zach’s assistant walks up to me, beaming all smiles.

“Good evening, Ken. I am here to see my husband, is he in?”

“Uhmm” he scratches his head lightly, “not at all ma’am, he is in a meeting?”

“A meeting?” This does not sit well with me, I mean he didn’t mention any meeting when we talked an hour ago.

“Fine, I will wait for him in his office”

Not waiting for his response, I make my way towards the elevator. Now the smile on my face has disappeared. Zach didn’t say anything about a meeting so why?

“Not today, Avery” I tell myself, today is a good day and only good vibes matter.

As soon as I climb out of the elevator, I hasten towards my husband’s office and throws the door open which I wish I never did. There is he, butt naked deep inside another woman and that woman is non other than my step sister, Karen.

The two of them jolt as soon as I walk into the office and Zach immediately pulls his shaft out of her, surprise written on his face. Pain surge through me, looking at him. How can he do this to me? How can he go to sleep with someone else when he has a mate and not to talk about the fact that she is my f*****g sister.

“Avery, what are you doing here?” He asks me, pulling his pants up.

Why the heck didn’t my wolf feel it if he was here cheating on me?

“What the hell is going on, Zach?” I can’t help but ask him, “what is this?”

“Why didn’t you call me before coming,”

“What?” Surprise flash through my face, my whole body already trembling and I feel like falling down but I hold onto the door handle. I can’t fall down, not when I have a little life growing inside of me.

“Are you kidding me right now?”

“You should have called, Avery” he says again, “you can’t just barge into my office like that”

“I come in on you f*****g my sister and this is what you tell me?” I half yell, pain radiating through my entire body.

“Lower your voice, Avery” Karen advises as she lowers herself on his chair, “this is a hospital, not a pack house”

“You b***h!!” I growl in anger as I make for her but Zach grabs my hand.

“Don’t you dare touch her, Avery” he warns me, “she is carrying my child”

My whole body comes to a standstill, what the heck did he say?

“What did you say?”

“Let’s be honest Avery, you haven’t been able to give the pack any child since we had our mark and mate ceremony. Why are you the Luna then if you can’t even produce an heir to the pack”

“What the heck are you telling me, Zach?” I half yell. I have a baby growing inside of me, our baby but I don’t say this out loud, not when he isn’t even remorseful for his actions.

Tears well up in my eyes, rolling down my face and smudging my makeup.

“How can you stand in front of me and tell me this when I just caught you cheating on me with my sister, Zach?

“Step sister, Avery” Karen corrects me, “and why are you so mad? Didn’t your useless wolf of a mother do the same thing? Didn’t she seduce my father and get pregnant with you? Why acting like you are the saint now?”

“Don’t you dare, Karen. You and I know that your mother was the one who forced herself on my father. She saw the opportunity when mum left for college, so don’t you dare use that tone with me. I still haven’t forgiven you for my mother’s death”

Mother died refusing to accept father’s bond breaking. She suffered every day living with the guilt of shoving her mate into another woman’s arms and it cost her her life and her position as Luna. I am not going to let the same thing happen to me no matter what.

“Go home, Avery” Zach yells, his jaw clenching together, “you shouldn’t be here. At least, be happy that Karen is carrying my child”

“But I am carrying your child too” i want to yell but instead, I take a step closer to him and gently grab his hand.

“Look baby” I sniff back a tear, “this isn’t you okay? Maybe you are just tired and I can totally understand. Let’s just go home and I promise we won’t have to talk about this”

This is the only thing I can do right, we have been together for four years, I can not let him go like that. Zach loves me, he has shown me that he loved me, he showed me.

He slowly shoves my hands off and rounds his table, picking up a document from ontop of it.

“Since you are here now, let’s get this over with” he tells me, “divorce papers, I have already signed my space”

At that moment, my entire world comes to a standstill.

“Divorce?”

“Hmm” he nods, “since Karen is carrying the heir to the pack, there is no need for me and you to be together anymore, Avery. Sign the papers and we will both go our separate ways, I am tired of pretending to love you”

My world shatters, how did we come to this? I only came to tell him about my pregnancy, to give him a surprise actually and I….

“You can not do this, Zach” I make to touch him again, “you love me, I love you and together we make a beautiful couple. You don’t have to do this”

“Now you sound just like your mother” Karen say and my wolf almost jumps out of me to tear her into a million pieces.

“I am breaking our bond, Avery” Zach tells me again, “I am rejecting you as my mate.

There and then, my whole world comes shattering to the ground.
