The sheets were still warm when I woke. Not hot. Just warm. That meant he'd only been gone a few minutes. Maybe ten. Fifteen, tops. I sat up fast, my heart already out of control before I noticed the note on the nightstand. "I went out for food. I'll be back before you finish this sentence. I love you. Don't run. Please." He trusted me. That trust hadn't come easy. He was scared out of his mind that I'd run the second his back was turned, and he still left. He'd put his faith in me.
