Every morning I woke up with Marlene by my side had seemed unreal to me, and I treasured every second of the time we spent together. We had decided a long time ago that we would use the brief time we had together to live as normally as we could, and we had a routine and a way of life that felt natural to me now. I woke up before her, and held her in my arms because there was nothing in the world that would persuade me to give up the feeling of my mate in my arms and our daughter moving beneath my hands. When she woke up, I would go to make breakfast and we would eat it in bed together before we finally got up and showered together.
