I woke up in the night with a horrendous pain in my abdomen and an uneasy feeling that I was being watched. I should have been concerned by the pain - it was a result of my injury, and I knew that I needed Marlene to try to look at it for me: even though she wasn’t confident enough to do much for it, she would know if it was getting worse, and I knew that I was more likely to brush it off as normal than she was. The feeling that I was being observed was more disconcerting to me, and I knew that I was probably being paranoid, but there was no way I was going to ignore that feeling when I needed to make sure we were safe.
