I don't understand why I have to sit in on this lunch meeting when dad is the one doing business with these people. Grandpa asked Maddox and I to sit in. He texted us that he wants us to know good and bad business up front and personal, so no-one ever takes advantage of us like they do with dad. "So, Ledger, congratulations. I hear you recently got married. Is this her?" one of dad's business partners asks, gesturing to Darcy who conveniently happened to sit next to me. Maddox snorts. "No, Darcy is not my wife." I say. "Oh, where is your wife then?" he asks. "My wife was not able to attend this trip, unfortunately she had some prior commitments she could not get out of." I say.
