Keeping out of sight, Chloe moved away from where I last saw her. It was hard to hear what she was saying now.
Hearing what she said before she walked away, “You need to come back here now, I need you.” It made me wonder if it was her mother, Josephine or someone else.
Jake got closer but said nothing till we heard Chloe’s footsteps move away and her voice faint, which meant she was now out of earshot.
Moving from where I was, I let out a sigh and looked to where she had gone. There was no way in hell I would follow her since I knew she would play a game with me. All I knew was I had to stay away from her, never be alone with her. Only with friends or other pack members.
“That’ll be a first,” Jake murmured, which only made me tense, but I didn’t react to what he said.
