Prologue

320 Words
Emily Nill was but an ordinary girl. Much like her peers, she had dreams and ambitions. And unlike most her peers, she couldn’t afford to entertain said dreams and ambitions – not since her parents passed away in a car crash on their way to her graduation ceremony. The college life with its ups and downs, its papers and its parties… all of that seemed so far out of reach now that she had lost her parents. She had to learn to fend for herself – she the shy and timid girl who rarely spoke up unless spoken to. She had to find herself a job to cover rent, bills, food expenses and that would hopefully allow her to grow some savings.   And that was how she was thrown into the lion’s den – or should she say the dragon’s den? Indeed, the job she found – the only one for which she was accepted and deemed fit – was that of a maid in an estate she would have never even dreamed of approaching had the circumstances been different. Fresh out of high school, and with no experience whatsoever, what could she have landed as a job, really? She supposed she should be glad they had hired little clumsy her, especially since they promised to pay handsomely. If her calculations were correct, and provided she gave them no room to fire her, she could save up enough money to go to college within two years. Emily led a normal life up till her parents’ passing. But then as fate would have it, that job was, unbeknownst to her, going to change her life. For better or for worse, her fate was sealed the moment the owner of the estate – the one she was supposed to avoid at all and any cost according to the housekeeper – showed interest in her.
