Meirah was thrown into confusion, trying to make sense of who could be at her door at this late hour. "Could it be my parents?" she thought, but there was a nagging feeling inside her telling her otherwise.
Her response didn’t come immediately as she was caught off guard, which seemed to make the person outside more impatient.
But her parents wouldn’t knock like this. They are very understanding. If she didn’t open it, they would either call her or wait till tomorrow. The person who was outside the door was acting as if he or she wanted to beat her or do some harm to her.
Or maybe something has happened to her family; if not, who would disturb her at this late hour?
She frowned as she got up from bed.
The voice rang out again, sharper and more demanding this time.
"Open the door!"
