Luckily for Carl, after going through that insane training with Bryant, Betsy's attack on him did not feel like much. He just looked a little startled at first.
Once he got used to it, he began to understand what Betsy was trying to do. Each time something landed on him, it would shatter and turn into a particular type of magic particle that would surround him and move in a particular rhythm.
Leaf-shaped blades of wind, arrows made from water, balls of fire, spears made from earth and lightning bolts broke down into their basic particles in front of him. This was what bringing the textbook to life meant, after all. Everything he had read became much easier to understand now.
He was very touched by how much effort Betsy was putting into teaching him, so he was not going to disappoint her
