Ava’s POV The room smelled of smoke and burnt flesh. He lay flat on the floor, his heart was pounding so loud I could hear it. Wisps of black smoke was coming out from his chest and hands, the places where my light had burned him. His red eyes, usually bright and cruel, were widened with shock. My body was shaking, the sparks were still crackling faintly across my skin. For a moment, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t breathe. I just stood there looking at him. Then he groaned, trying to push himself up. Panic snapped me out of it. My body moved before I could think. I ran, shoving the door open so hard it slammed against the wall.
