Ava’s POV
I thought I could hold it back.
When the sparks started crawling over my arm, I told myself to breathe, to fight it but no matter how hard I tried, it wasn’t enough. It felt like something inside me had snapped open, a storm ripping free and I couldn’t shut it again.
I heard the recruits screaming. I saw the warriors shielding them but I couldn’t stop. My body moved on its own, light bursting out of me, tearing the ground apart.
And then I heard him…Lucas. His voice.
“Ava! Stay with me!”
I clung to it like it was the only thing keeping me from drowning but still, I lost myself to the roar.
And then…darkness.
When my eyes opened again, everything hurt. My head was pounding, my chest tight. My body felt heavy, pinned down by invisible chains.
