Kane’s POV The moment Lucas left Ava’s chamber, I stepped in. She was sitting up, her arms wrapped around herself, her eyes red but steady. “You should rest,” I told her. “I’m fine,” she whispered, but her voice cracked. I sat at the edge of her bed, forcing my tone calm. “You’re not fine but you’re alive. That’s what matters.” Her hands trembled, so I reached over and stilled them with mine. “Listen to me, Ava.
