Kane’s POV
The smell of blood stayed on me long after the last rogue fell. My body was aching, my claws still itched for more but the fight was over. For now.
My warriors dragged themselves home, some were limping, while some were carried, all of them exhausted and though I should’ve felt relief, there was only one thought burning in my mind.
Ava.
The moment I stepped into the courtyard, her scent hit me, pulling me forward. My chest clenched, I walked faster and before I even saw her face, I knew she was near.
And then she appeared in the hall, rushing toward me. Her cloak was stained with blood, her hair messy and her cheeks flushed.
For a wild second, I thought she’d been attacked. That a rogue had gotten to her, that I had failed.
