It has been nearly two entire days, and Mani and Thorolf have not stopped talking. They are excited, but they just do not understand.
“I can’t wait to shoot someone with my arrows!” Mani says, but before Hjordis can say anything, Ansuz turns to her.
“SOMEONE,” he says in a tone that makes even me feel a little uncomfortable. “Has a family. If you shoot them with your arrow, you kill them. They die, just as Father did.”
Mani swallows hard, and Hjordis blinks at the boy before looking up at me. “Ansuz understands,” she tells Mani gently. “We all need things to survive, but taking someone’s life should be difficult. It should hurt you to do it.”
