The man outside the house stood up suddenly. He heard the child's voice almost immediately.
The female doctor came out with the baby in her arms and congratulated him.
"Congratulations, Mr. Slater, it's a boy."
The doctor handed the baby to him. The crying little body was wrapped up, with only a little red face showing.
He didn't answer it. He just glanced at it and asked in a hoarse voice, "Where's my wife?"
"Madam is too tired and has already fallen asleep."
"Can I come in?" the man asked extremely cautiously, as if asking for permission.
The female doctor was not used to his behavior and handed the child to Jane who had been waiting by the side. "Okay, but don't wake her up."
"No..." the man murmured, pushing the door open with trembling hands and walking in.
