The balcony air was cold enough to sting, but it did nothing to steady me. My pulse was still a frantic, uneven rhythm in my throat. My hands were shaking so badly I had to grip the railing just to keep them still. Adrian stepped out behind me, the soft click of the door sounding too calm for the chaos inside my chest.
