She knew her daughter was out of reach, but her own cage was still very much occupied by a man who refused to take the hint. To outrun a tracker like Loren, she knew she’d have to do more than just pack a bag and run. She’d have to drug him to buy herself the hours she needed to disappear into the wind.
But to pull that off, she had to play a long, exhausting game of charades. She let Loren linger around the house, allowing him to trail after her like a guilty dog.
