Because of the shortened time frame of the pureblood allowing them to be in the sunlight, and the rations being limited now, only a certain amount of vampires, the higher-ups, were allowed to drink the pure blood every two weeks, while the others were granted once a month, giving themselves two weeks of darkness and two weeks of allowed daylight time. Because of this, Gerald had a wave of vampires roaming the Earth, going state to state in search of the pack. Those who were given the allowance to last two weeks were at the front of the wave, while those only able to walk in the dark moved slower, waiting for the sun to set to take off.
