LUCAS’S POV I stood in my chambers, adjusting the formal jacket required for council meetings and trying not to think about yesterday. About Liora pressed against the wall in Darren’s quarters, her eyes blazing with anger as she confronted me about my inconsistent treatment of her. About the way her voice had trembled when she’d said “as much as I…” before cutting herself off. As much as she what? Wanted my touch? Or Needed it? The porcelain vase on my desk began to c***k under the pressure of my grip. “My lord?” Byron’s voice snapped me back to the present. I looked down to find my hand clenched around the vase hard enough that hairline fractures were spreading across its surface. I released it carefully and stepped back. “Are you alright?” Byron asked. “Fine. Just distracted.”
