Christopher stared at Vivian, utterly speechless. Not because he couldn't form words, but because he truly didn’t know what to say. How could he? How was he supposed to look into those warm, trusting eyes and tell her that the hospital board was considering removing her as an intern? It would break her. No—destroy her. He couldn't do that to her. Not now. Not when she was already hanging by a thread, barely holding herself together. Between the exhaustion, the nausea, the constant battle with her changing body—this news would be the final push that shattered her completely. And as much as it hurt to admit, this was his fault. He did this to her. But if there was one thing Christopher Cooper never did, it was sit back and let things fall apart. He would fix this. No matter what it took
