“IT IS NEGATIVE”
The words didn’t register at first.
They just… floated.
Vivian blinked.
Her lips parted.
But she didn’t breathe.
The nurse’s voice came again, slow, careful now. Almost reverent.
“Dr. Carter, your results are negative. Everything came back clear. You’re okay.” She said again as she excused herself.
The room didn’t spin. It dropped.
Her heart stopped and then slammed back into motion with a force that made her knees tremble.
“I…”Her voice cracked.
And then her body caved.
She folded like something breaking in slow motion, her legs buckling under the weight of disbelief, relief, fear, gratitude, everything, but before she hit the floor, Christopher’s arms wrapped around her like armor.
He caught her.
Like he always did.
Like her body didn’t need to ask for it
