Carolyn’s Point of View Damian’s hand hooked under my elbow, tugging the two of us across the room until our bodies were crammed into the tight space between the wall and filing cabinet. His legs intertwined with mine as he crouched slightly to keep his head tucked below the top of the cabinet. My heart pounded like a jackhammer in my chest in anticipation of what came next. Right now we might be shielded by the shadows in this room, but all it would take was for someone to stop inside and turn the light on. It would only take a split second for the two of us to be caught, for me to lose my job, for Damian to lose his spot on the team. All it would take was a second and our entire lives would come crumbling down around us. His breath was hot, washing over my face in waves as he panted.
