I was ready for him to leave me. At this point, I admitted what had been weighing on my chest my whole existence as I remembered it. Daniel was still there. He almost looked frozen in time; he was sitting next to me, gazing into my eyes. I wondered when he would speak up or leave me or kick me out. I saw something in his eyes. Was it pity for all the humans I had devoured and killed or for me? I didn’t need his pity. I didn’t need anyone. I could see myself being alone again, although now it would be more painful than ever to leave him, his warm body, and his soul. Finally, he spoke up. He said something, but I could not hear it.
