Chapter 9 - Part1

848 Words
Chelle's grin was wide as she approached the table Bree occupied in the cafeteria. Chelle had texted Bree to wait for her so they could have lunch together because she had some juicy gossip. Bree wanted to roll her eyes at her friend. Chelle was also a contractual employee, just like Bree. They were both hired at the same time, the only difference being that Bree was still in college. She applied for the position as assistant secretary, but Bree didn't expect to be hired. Bree was actually called by Mr. Samaniego's executive secretary to tell her that she was accepted for the position she applied for. The timing was perfect because her landlady had kicked her out of the apartment she was renting because she was behind on her payments. The landlady didn't want to accept her down payment anymore because she owed her a lot of money. Bree had some extra money, so she used it to find a cheaper place to rent. She wasn't disappointed and found one quickly. It was a bonus because her new landlady, Aling Oping, was very kind. She was a widow with two daughters. Chelle sat down excitedly in front of Bree even though she hadn't ordered food yet. It seemed she couldn't postpone the gossip she had. “Why are you smiling like that? You know, it's scary, you look like an idiot.” Bree laughed at her friend's face. Chelle just rolled her eyes, but after rolling them, her eerie smile came back to life again. “You know what?” She started. Chelle leaned her arms on the table and brought her face closer to Bree's. “I don't know, what's the gossip you're talking about? You know I'm dying for gossip today? There are so many issues, especially with Sir Jax.” Bree just pouted when she remembered what her teammates in marketing were talking about. Her bad mood hadn't subsided from what she had heard. Chelle's grin grew even wider. She slapped Bree's arm hard. “It's about Sir Jax that I'm going to tell you. But promise me, girl, no one else can know about this, okay? This will be between you and me.” “Let's order food first, I need to go back to the hall before one o'clock because we still have a lot to finish today. The event is tomorrow, so we have to finish everything this afternoon.” The two stood in line to order food. After they got their orders, they went back to their table. Bree immediately started eating the moment she took her seat. “You know Sir Jax was looking for you earlier?” Bree stopped eating when she heard Chelle's statement. When she looked up, Chelle's meaningful smile was there again. Bree was shocked for a moment. Was that true? Her? Sir Jax was looking for her? Why? Bree didn't want to put meaning into what Chelle said. There were many reasons why a boss would look for an employee. Chelle's mind was just too different, so she gave meaning to even simple things. “Why? Maybe he needed something about my mistake in his kitchen.” That's what Bree wanted to think. She didn't want to think about anything else. Jackson Samaniego was her boss, that's all she should think about while she worked at his company. Chelle shrugged. She didn't believe that the fire in Sir Jax's kitchen was the reason why he asked her. This was the second time he had asked about her friend. “No, it's not. Actually, this is the second time Sir Jax has asked about you. The first time was on your first day transferring to marketing. He asked if you had resigned, and this is the second time. Girl, I have a feeling about Sir Jax. It seems like there's going to be a major revelation here in the Diamond Building soon!” She even let out a small scream, seemingly thrilled by what she was thinking. “I owe Sir Jax. I should pay for the damage I did to his kitchen. He's just making sure I don't run away from my responsibility to him,” Bree explained. She even pouted because she remembered her blunder in front of her boss. “No, it's not! And you know what, after he asked me, an hour later, Sir Jax went out, he told Rex that he would just go down for a bit. Where do you think he went? He came back right away, but you know what, girl? Sir Jax was angry when he came back to the office.” “Angry? How angry? Isn't he always angry? Is there a day he's not angry?” “No, it's different! He was angry when he came back to the office. We were all surprised because he didn't have any enemies or employees he was scolding.” “Oh, I'm telling you, Chelle, stop gossiping about Jax. If he finds out you're spreading what's happening in the office, you're sure to be in trouble.”
