CHAPTER 2
It's been a week since Amara last saw Xavier at her café. In the week that passed, there wasn't a day she didn't wait for him. She was hoping that maybe he would come to his café.
Now that a week had passed, Amara no longer hoped that their paths would cross again. And she was hoping not, because their last meeting did not go well.
That guy, he's so arrogant and grumpy towards her. And she doesn’t like his attitude towards her.
“Miss Amara… Miss Amara…” Her employee, Jhanna, called her several times. "Are you okay? I've noticed you've been staring off for a long time. Is there a problem with anything? " She gazed at her, concerned.
Amara smiled at Jhana so she wouldn't worry about her. "I'm fine. I'm just thinking about something."
Jhana nodded at her. She left him and went back to what she was doing.
Amara looked at her watch. It’s already 3:00 in the afternoon. He still has an hour to finish the cake he's preparing for Amori. Her parents and Amori will pick up the cake she made at 4:00 PM later.
Amori requests that. Her favorites are blueberry cheesecake and carrot cake.
"I'm done," she said, then looked at the two cakes she had made.
Amara would love the cakes. She knows that.
Amara took off the apron she was wearing before she left the kitchen. She found Jhana at the cashier while Gracie was arranging their cake display.
"Have you two eaten?" she asked.
"We did, Miss Amara," Gracie replied with a smile.
Amara nodded. "When you get hungry, don't hesitate to take some cake from the kitchen. Okay?"
Jhanna nodded. “Thank you, Miss Amara.”
“You’re welcome. I will go back inside the kitchen. If you need anything, don't hesitate to let me know," she said, and went back inside the kitchen.
Amara tidied up the things she used for baking. She placed the cakes in boxes before putting them inside the freezer.
Amara was busy tidying up when her phone rang. She wiped her hands when she saw that her mom was calling.
"Hello, Mom? Where are you?" Amara asked when she answered the call.
“Amori, sweetie, calm down…” She heard her mom saying on the other line. "We're already in the parking lot. We're already going down. I'm just calming Amori because she's throwing a tantrum."
"Okay, Mom. Where's Dad?" she asked.
“I’m here, Amara,” Dad said.
"Hi, Dad," she said to her father. "I will come see you," she said.
"Yes, please. Help me calm Amori down," her mother asked.
“I’m coming,” she said, and dropped the call.
Amara left the kitchen. She gave Jhanna and Gracie some instructions before heading to the parking lot.
From where she was standing at the cashier, she could see her parents' car.
She couldn't wait to show her and let Amori taste the cake she made for her.
After telling Jhana and Gracie that she would step out to visit her parents, Amara returned to the kitchen to get the cake.
“I’ll be back, Gracie.” She said before leaving the cashier.
“Take your time, Miss Amara. For the time being, Jhanna and I will look after the café," Gracie smiled.
Amara is walking out of her café. Some people who know her greet her. She greeted and smiled at them.
Amara was already at the door when she saw her Dad get out of the car and wave at her. He was about to greet her when a car stopped beside her Dad.
Amara's eyes widened in shock when she saw the passenger of the car lower the window and pull out a gun.
“Dad… No, Dad…” Amara whimpered gently as she watched the man aiming the gun at her father.
Her father looked at her, smiled, and shook his head. It appeared to indicate to don't get too close.
Amara did not listen; instead, she pushed the door and tried to approach her father.
“Dad! Mom!” Amara shouted. She dropped the cake she was holding, and it fell to the floor. She doesn't mind if the cake she made is wrecked; what matters more to her is being near her family. She needs to save her family.
Amara was startled when she heard a series of gunshots. She closed her eyes and covered her ears from the deafening gunfire.
The people in his café went into a frenzy. He heard screams and shouts out of fear. Some are pushing him because they are in a hurry to leave the place.
"Amara, go inside now!" she heard her Dad say.
When Amara opened her eyes, her tears slowly began to fall. Her dad's clothes were slowly soaking in his blood. She saw how her dad fell and vomited blood.
“Dad!” Amara shouted.
No, not my Dad.
Amara attempted to walk toward her father, but the sound of gunfire halted her in her tracks. She heard the glass shattering behind her, followed by the bullet hitting her body.
“Miss Amara! No, Miss Amara!” She heard Gracie call her.
Amara landed on the cold pavement. The sensation of pain lingers throughout her entire body. Amara grabbed her stomach, where the bullet had been hit.
“No! Please, stop!” Amara shouted in pain as she watched her family get shot. Her parents' car was infiltrated with gunshots. "Have mercy! Please, have mercy on us."
The men did not listen to her. He got off and opened fire on his café. Some were trapped in the crossfire, while others were able to escape.
Amara burst into tears even more when she realized what was happening. She wasn't sure why they were in this situation right now. Her parents are kind and do not have any enemies. That is why she can not grasp what is happening to them.
Amara did her hardest to get herself up, but she was severely injured.
"Come on, Amara. You can do it." She muttered angrily to herself and still tried to stand up. "Damn it, Amara." Stand up! Stand up and save them," Amara cried hard.
Amara shook her head when she felt dizzy. She had already lost a lot of blood.
Amara prayed so hard. She prayed that Dad, Mom, and Amori's condition wouldn't worsen. She prays that she will wake up from this bad dream.
Amara doesn't know if she can handle what's happening.
"Let's go." "The police are on their way," said the driver who was with the man who shot them.
Amara watched as the car drove away. Amara can hear the sound of the police siren.
Amara slowly got up. She scanned her surroundings. He was horrified by what he saw. Dead bodies everywhere, blood scattered. It’s terrifying.
"Oh, my god." She cried even more. He saw Gracie and Jhanna lifeless. Their bodies were covered in blood and riddled with bullets. It was horrifying. Gracie and Jhanna have also become his friends because they have been working for him for a long time. They are kind and helpful and have been good employees. She felt bad for them.
It seemed like her heart was shattered when she saw the whole place and her café.
Amara gathered all her strength and approached her Dad. She crawled down and tried to wake her father.
“Dad, wake up.” He shook his Dad's body. But he didn't wake up. "Dad, don't leave me."
Amara hugged her Dad. She hugged him tightly. She cried in her father's chest.
Amara grimaced as she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She is running out of blood. Amara tightened her grip to staunch the bleeding.
Amara kissed her Dad's forehead.“I love you so much, Dad. Thank you for loving me. I love you… I love you…” she sobbed.
Amara stood up and approached her parents' car. Amara opened the passenger seat door. It seemed her knees went weak when she saw her mom.
She covered her mouth while tears continued to stream down her cheeks. "Mom..." Her body was full of bullet wounds. Her mom even tried to shield her body to save Amori, but it was too late.
Her sister was shot too. Amori's body was also full of gunshot wounds.
“Mom, wake up, please…” She begged. “Amori, wake up. Guys! Wake up! Please, I beg you. Don’t do this to me.”
She hugged her mother. She hugged it so tightly.
If God, will take my family away, please take me too.
Amara keeps on praying that she will wake up from this bad dream. No, this is not a dream but a nightmare for her.
Please, God, don't take my family away from me.
Amara slowly shook her head. Her vision was blurring. And she feels that any moment she will lose consciousness.
Please, someone help me.
Amara's eyelids are shutting slowly. Her embrace of her mother is gradually loosening. She's going to fall.
Amara waited for her to collapse onto the pavement. She no longer has the strength to move her body.
Before Amara's body hit the floor, she felt a muscular arm catch her. Amara wished she could open her eyes and see who was helping her, but she did not have the strength.
“You’ll be fine.”
