CHAPTER 8

JAZMIN suddenly gasped for air and rose from her bed. She quickly looked at her son. Jazmin sighed in relief when Ace, short of ‘Acezequiel’, didn’t get awakened by her. She just had a dream. Jazmin dreamed of that night. What happened that night was so clear. It was she who took the initiative to sleep with Ace’s father. Jazmin could only massage her temple. It’s been five years. Ace was already four years old. She was grateful to God for having her son by her side. She left the bed and walked towards the window. She looked at the full moon. Jazmin felt different during the full moon, as if someone was watching her. Staring at the bright moon, Ace’s father came into her mind. She looked at her son. Ace was different from other kids. Though Ace was normal, he was not an ordinary child. She had noticed it since Ace was born. Jazmin didn’t know what Ace’s father's origin was, but she could tell that he may not be a human. It was funny to think, but that came into her mind when she witnessed Ace’s silver eyes glowing. And that was not normal for humans. Though she did not want to assume that, it was the conclusion she came up with. Ace’s father was not human. That’s for sure. “What am I getting myself into?” Jazmin asked herself. She sighed deeply and kept staring at the moon. MEANWHILE… At Nightingale Palace, Silver Shadow Pack, Eastern Region of the Celestial Continent. Ezequiel was staring at the moon from the large window of his room. For four years, his primordial spirit was in the Human Race. Every time he looked at the moon, he couldn’t help but compare the moon of the Human Race and the Celestial Continent. He just returned to his body a few days ago. Everyone knew that he had lived in seclusion. No one knew that he had fallen into a deep slumber. And no one knew that he had woken up except Soren. He was just gaining back his strength before going to the Human Race to look for his mate. Five years… Jazmin had suffered for five years. “Alpha King.” Soren bowed his head. “What is it?” Ezequiel asked without looking back. “Alpha King, a letter from King Theo.” Ezequiel faced Soren and took the letter from him. He opened the letter. ‘Alpha King, have you gone back to your body? Of course, you won’t be reading my letter if not.’ Ezequiel rolled his eyes, reading the first sentence of Theo’s letter. ‘Honestly, during those five years, it was not easy for me to take care of the whole Celestial Continent. There were many annoying elders and tribe leaders, but it was okay. I’m telling you, you must do what you need to do and come back to rule the Celestial Continent. And don’t die in the process.’ Ezequiel shook his head. “Only he can say this to me,” he said, and burned the letter. “Alpha King, are you really going to the Human Race?” Soren asked. Ezequiel nodded. “I have to. My mate and my son suffered. I have to take care of them.” Soren’s eyes widened. “Son? Alpha King, you have a son?” he asked in surprise. Ezequiel nodded. “I have. He’s already four years old. In those four years, it was my primordial spirit that watched him grow up. Now, I woke up. I must take care of him myself.” “Then I wish you luck, Alpha King.” Soren bowed. “Thank you, Soren.” Suddenly, Ezequiel remembered his brother. “How’s Ezekiel?” Soren cleared his throat. “He’s doing well, Alpha King. Alpha Dominick was taking care of him.” Ezequiel chuckled. “Looks like I didn’t make mistakes when I chose Dominick to be Ezekiel’s master.” Soren scratched the back of his neck. Alpha King, if you only knew how much trouble your brother had in the Moon Shine Pack. Fortunately, Alpha Dominick was very patient with him. Otherwise, I don’t know how he ended up. “Soren, go to Alpha Dominick and tell him he is Ezekiel’s Master. He must discipline Ezekiel if he does something wrong.” Soren bowed his head. “Yes, Alpha King.” “And take care of the palace. I’m leaving tomorrow.” Soren bowed his head again. BEFORE THE SUN RISES from the east the next morning, Ezequiel sets off to go to the Human Race. He looks for his mate and his son. He clenched his fist. For four years, his primordial spirit accompanying Jazmin, he witnessed how other people judged her for being a single mother. For some reason, he was at fault. If he hadn’t touched her that night, Jazmin wouldn’t have suffered. “Bye, Mommy!” Ace waved at his mother. Jazmin waved back before Ace walked inside the school gate. Suddenly, she looked around when she felt a pair of eyes looking at her, but no one was looking at her. “Maybe I was overthinking.” Jazmin shrugged and walked towards the Milktea Shop where she was working. Since she didn’t get her degree in college, she could only do a collar job to support herself and Ace. Ezequiel watched Jazmin as she worked behind the counter, preparing milkteas for the customers coming into the shop. He was sitting at the corner of the shop, and Jazmin didn’t notice him. Ezequiel spun the milktea he was holding before placing it on the table. He took a tissue from the tissue box and wrote something, then placed it under the milktea cup together with some money for tips. He left the Milktea Shop and went to Ace’s school. A small smile automatically appeared on his lips when he saw his son coming out of the school gate. The school and the Milktea Shop were within walking distance. When he was still a primordial spirit, Ace often walked towards the shop where Jazmin worked after his class. Following his son closely, he didn’t notice Ace was walking in the wrong direction. Ace was not going to the Milktea Shop but was about to cross the street. Ezequiel’s eyes widened when Ace crossed the street with the vehicles still passing through the pedestrian lane. The stoplight was still green. Pedestrians should not cross the street because the vehicles are still moving. Ezequiel saw the car coming, and he didn’t hesitate to use his unhuman speed to grab Ace from the pedestrian lane and land on the other side of the road. “Little kid, you were making your mother worried about you,” Ezequiel said. “Like how much do you worry about me?” Ace asked. Ezequiel was stunned. “What did you say?” Ace smiled when he saw the man in front of him. They have the same eye color and even sparkle when sunlight illuminates them. Ezequiel was stunned even more when his son touched his hand. He felt a warm feeling when his son touched his hand. “I can really touch you now,” Ace said in surprise. “You…” Ace smiled knowingly. “You are my father.” Ezequiel’s eyes widened in surprise. “How did you know?” he asked. “You are always watching me and my mother. Moreover, we have the same eyes. If I’m not your son, then who else?” Ace crossed his arms over his chest and puckered his lips. “You… you can see my primordial spirit.” “Yes. Mommy can’t see you, but I can.” Ace smiled innocently. “I just don’t say it because mommy won’t believe me.” Ezequiel was dumbfounded. His son could see him all along. Ace was just pretending. No wonder sometimes he noticed Ace was trying to get close to him and trying to touch him. At that moment, he thought Ace was trying to get something from where he was sitting. It turns out that Ace was seeing his primordial spirit. “Then why did you cross the street? I’m worried, you little naughty kid.” “Of course, to see if you would show yourself, and you did.” “Naughty kid. What if I didn’t pull out there? You’ve been dead by now,” said Ezequiel. “That won’t happen,” said Ace in a confident voice. Ezequiel frowned. “How so?” he asked as he caressed his son’s hair. “I am your son. You will save me, and I am certain that you will.” Ezequiel smiled. “What a smart son I have,” he said, and gently pinched his son’s nose. Ace smiled. “Daddy, can I hug you?” he asked. There was a glint of hope in his eyes. Ezequiel was stunned to hear his son calling him ‘Daddy’. He smiled, crouched down, and spread his arms. “Come here, son.” Ace took a step forward and clung to his father’s neck. As a father, Ezequiel felt warmth as he felt his son hug him. A wave of protectiveness washed over him, a silent vow to always be there and to protect him, even as his son grew taller and stronger in the future. Ace, who had never felt his father’s hug before, felt the hug was a grounding force, a tangible link to his roots. The warmth of his father’s embrace chased away the worry and uncertainties of the world he felt without a father growing up. It was a silent assurance that he was loved and accepted by his father. “Daddy?” “Hmm?” Ezequiel hummed as he stood up, carrying his son in his arms. “You’re not human, right?” Ezequiel was not surprised anymore by his son’s question. Ace was smart, and he could solve a complex problem at a glance. “Yeah, and since I am not a human, you are too.” “That’s cool, Daddy!” Ace exclaimed. “Acezequiel!” Both Ezequiel and Ace stilled. “Daddy, we were caught.” Ezequiel nodded. “Yeah, and I think your mother will hate me.” “Mommy is nice.” Ezequiel only smiled and put Ace down. Then he faces Jazmin. Jazmin’s eyes widened when he saw the familiar eyes of the man who was with Ace. The man who had the same silver eyes as Ace. “It’s you.”
